John Stevens is a consultant for Kaufman Campaigns providing extensive policy knowledge and expertise for clients.
A virtual institution in California’s Capitol, John Stevens served as a Chief of Staff and Senior Consultant to several Speakers of the California State Assembly, sheparding the passage of some of California’s most groundbreaking laws and overseeing operations and staffing for the entire State Assembly. The relationships fostered by John Stevens over his many years of service in the Assembly are an invaluable resource for Kaufman Campaigns and the clients we serve. Stevens has extensive policy expertise in the areas of transportation, energy and budget policies – and continues to provide strategic political advice on these matters.
Stevens served as Chief Consultant to Assembly Fabian Núñez from 2003-2005, as Chief of Staff to Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson from 2001-2003, as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Gray Davis from 2000-2001, and as Chief of Staff to Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa from 1998-2000. He also served as Senior Policy Consultant to the Assembly Democratic Leader, and as Chief Consultant of the Assembly Transportation Committee from 1987 to 1995.
Stevens also served as a member of the Public Utilities Commission and the California Power Authority.
