Napa – Today the American Association of Political Consultants bestowed its “National Campaign Manager of the Year” award on consultant Gale Kaufman for her work on the resoundingly successful 2005 campaign to defeat Governor Schwarzenegger’s Special Election initiatives.
“I am surprised that it has taken most of you all this time to recognize the superior talent of this woman who has been at the top of her game for years – she’s got a strategic political mind that is second to none,” said former Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown “When I found out the Alliance for a Better California had hired Gale as the consultant, I knew that the ‘Terminator’ didn’t stand a chance.”
“The California Teachers Association has valued Gale’s expertise and no-nonsense counsel for many years, but in the last election, her strategic guidance was critical to our resounding victory in November,” said Barbara E. Kerr, President of the California Teachers Association. “We’re glad to have her on our team.”
“Gale is more than an advisor, she’s a great friend,” said Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez. “Her strategic advice is invaluable. She always thinks two steps ahead, and always tells it like it is.”
“Gale Kaufman has been my consultant for over twenty years – and I’m a proud recipient of her straight-talking advice over the years,” said State Superintendent Jack O’Connell. “Gale has truly made her mark on California’s political landscape and deserves recognition for all she has done.”
Gale Kaufman opened her firm in 1987, and has led some of the state’s most significant and successful campaigns and issue-based initiatives. Kaufman has served as lead consultant for over 70 Congressional, California State Senate and Assembly campaigns, as well as numerous municipal and local measures, issue advocacy campaigns and statewide ballot initiatives. She also served as Senior Consultant to the Bill Bradley for President Campaign.
As lead consultant for the 2.5 million-member Alliance for a Better California, Gale Kaufman managed a campaign in which teachers, nurses, firefighters and police officers spoke out against Governor Schwarzenegger’s damaging Special Election agenda.
Described in the Los Angeles Times by activist/actor Warren Beatty as “silver-tongue,” Gale Kaufman is on just about every political reporter’s speed-dial for times when they need a sharp-witted, insightful quote on California politics.
