Richard Stapler

Richard Stapler has a wide range of experience in media and political communications and public relations. His government experience includes working for three Speakers’ of the Assembly and the California Prison Healthcare Receivership. In addition, he has worked on a number of statewide ballot initiatives, most recently serving as the communications director on Proposition 93. Stapler also provided outreach and public relations assistance to a variety of local government, nonprofit and corporate clients as an account manager for the Sacramento-based public relations and marketing firm Ross-Campbell, Inc.

In the legislature, Stapler was responsible for much of the day-to-day interactions between the Speaker and the working media. Among other issues, he was the communications lead on Assembly Bill 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006.

At the California Prison Healthcare Receivership, Stapler was responsible for providing outreach to communities for a multi-billion dollar prison construction project and acting as the policy and public affairs liaison with the State Legislature. While at the Receivership, Stapler was instrumental in garnering the passage of legislation that saves the State of California well over $50 million per year on correctional healthcare.

Stapler has acted as an on-the-record spokesperson for television, radio and print media for a host of complex and controversial issues facing state government.

Stapler has lived in Sacramento for 17 years. He studied at CSU, Sacramento, where he earned a degree in Communications. Also, he served on the board of Capitol City AIDS Fund for six years and continues to be an active supporter of LGBT candidates and issues.
